Motorcycles and placement

Published by on September 20th.

I wanted to write a little about motorcycles, and my recent placement.

I have a suzuki gsx650f, which is a really great mid size touring bike to get around on. I recently changed the chain and sprockets, and went up a sprocket on the front, to correct the speedo. It was a bastard of a job; the front sprocket has a speed rotor held over the retaining nut by an allen bolt. It stripped out when I was removing it, and I had to get help from my girlfriend's father. He hammered it out with a cold chisel, and we did the change. He ground down the allen key bolt to a 10mm head and we drove it back in. The bike is so great to ride and has a bit of power. Speaking of power, I'm about a week and a half away from getting my unrestricted Australian licence. I have a 97 VTR1000F sitting in the shed, in yellow. I'm very excited to take it to work. I've been up and down my street but I haven't been dumb enough to take it very far. Geez, it goes like the wind. The speedo is a bit off though, so I've got a speedo healer coming in the mail.

I'm studying paramedicine, and I've been on placement the past couple of weeks. My mentors were great, and I've learnt a lot. I got to run a few cases, and see a lot of interesting things. I've added to my collection of ECGs, put in some cannulas and perform CPR. I've handed in a few assessments in the past few days, and have a few more due in the coming weeks. I'm really considering going into medicine. Paramedicine can be exciting, but the scope is quite limited and you don't get to manage any of the patients long term.

I'm not sure if I want to do it because I'm interested in it, or because people say I'm smart and mention that I should do medicine at the same time, and I build up an association.

That's about it really. I just wanted to tell someone I did CPR, and not give my family secondhand trauma, which I fear they would get.

Thanks for reading
