Benjamin Lafreniere over at the University of Waterloo leads an interesting project called AdaptableGIMP. It is an attempt to provide more user friendly user interface for complex applications by focusing on users and their needs instead of on the features of the application.
I believe this is the future for user interface of graphics applications and I have been planning to implement something similar in RW Paint for some time now. But there is so much else to do... Maybe one day I'll finally get to it...
If you are a GIMP fan, give AdaptableGIMP a try.
