Today, I have been reviewing RWPaint's clipboard handling code for images and updating it to use the CF_DIBV5 format introduced in the good old Windows 2000.
The CF_DIBV5 format is able to support transparency. If the application that puts an image onto the clipboard and the application that pulls it from clipboard both support this format, transparency is preserved.
Not all image editors support it right now, but Firefox pleasantly surprised me. If you right-click on a transparent .png image in Firefox, select "Copy image" from the context menu and then paste it to the new RWPaint, the transparency will be preserved. This should simplify things for you if you often use the internet as a source of "inspiration" in your graphic adventures.
