With this software, can I sharpen, bright up or add contrast to more than one photo at once?

No, only one by one. Paint is supposed to be used for drawing new pictures.

There is another application focused on photographs called RealWorld Photos and it can perform custom batch operations and has other features related to photo-retouching, but it is not free.

Well, no one says Paint cannot be used for photo manipulations, it has all the basic filters. But its primary function is painting new things...
