I accidentally removed the border panel and the outlines can't be removed.
Is there a way to add more panels?

Yes, but you have to know a lot about how the application works under the hood to configure them properly.

You start by enabling "Show menu commands for layout control" in the Application Options window. Then you can access the user interface layouts from the Tools menu. The layout consists of menu and window configurations. Both are hierarchical. Every command, button and sub-window is part of the configuration and finding the place where to add a panel may be difficult.

This is not only a great feature for customization purposes, it's really a brilliant idea to keep it somewhat hidden from new users.
