Rainbow Vortex Swirl

How I made this cursor set?

The answer to that question is very simple. I have created this Rainbow Vortex Swirl cursor set by first downloading a static rainbow swirl png image from pngwing.com. Then, I went to the 3D GIF Maker online utility to create the rainbow animation effect of my desire by uploading the downloaded GIF image into 3D GIF Maker, and then set the animation type to Clockwise Spin. My first ambition was to set the number of frames to 100 frames, but I then realized that it made the cursor file size too big to make it uploadable on the RealWorld Designer website, so I changed my mind and set the number of frames to 50 frames. All the cursors in this Rainbow Vortex Swirl cursor set are going to be animated using only 50 frames per cursor and three resolutions for Windows 11. This cursor set will be set in 32x32, 48x48 and 64x64 resolutions so that users increasing the DPI settings level to a matching DPI setting can properly view and use this cursor set within Windows 11 without any viewing flaws of glitches. Below are the following settings that I have set to make the animated GIF file suitable for making this cursor set within the 3D GIF Maker online application:

Customize Size: 256

Speed: 30

Total Frames: 50

Zoom: 10

With all that set right, I am now ready to make a start on creating this fully animated cursor set. For this cursor set, I am going to make 18 cursor roles. There will be 17 right handed cursor roles and 1 left handed cursor role. This is going to be so much fun to make and a dazzling rainbow creation experience. I do like to make rainbow cursors with attractiveness and originality. Originality is the key to constantly bring up something new to RealWorld Designer. That is the reason why this cursor set is based on the rainbow theme of a swirling spinner that constantly spins clockwise into an illusion visual like a swirling tunnel travelling forward such as in a dream.

The first cursor that I am going to design is going to the the Normal Select cursor. Then I will proceed on to the next cursor which is the Inverted cursor role, which is an inverted version of the Normal Select cursor for left handed users. There are left handed users who cannot find a suitable cursor for their left hand use of the mouse. That is the reason why I have thought about adding the Inverted cursor role so that they are able to use the mouse in a user-friendly manner. I am going to create the cursors following the standard sequence order as to how they appear in the order that Microsoft set them to be in Windows 11. I prefer to follow that order to ensure that I do not forget some cursors along the way. Since there are 18 cursor roles to make for this Rainbow Vortex Swirl cursor set, it is very easy to miss one or two cursors along the way.

I have a cursor set on my profile which has a similar animation effect with an off-center animation called Rainbow. This cursor set is often called Rainbow Pinwheel. However, I am not attempting to make a copy of this cursor set. This is only coincidence, but this cursor set will have a better version of the swirling rainbow effect and larger cursors. The kind of strange thing going on with the Rainbow Pinwheel cursor set is that most of its cursors are very thin, so the animation is not very clear. This cursor set displays and represents the animation effect on all cursors with a better appearance and a smoother rainbow appearance. This is a flawless cursor set, meaning that I took the time to make it 100% mathematically perfect by ensuring that all the 50 animated frames were not skipping or have any duplicates of the same frame in subsequent frames in the animation order. Please be aware and note that all the 50 animation frames, loop perfectly well. That means that the last 50th frame loops perfectly well with the first frame in the animation. A looped animation means that there are no breaks or overlaps in the animation and that the animation patterns continues its following path in exactly the same animation pattern. This is the key to obtaining a mathematically perfect cursor set, along with all the cursor hotspots in the currect place and making sure that all the cursors are the same size for its respective resolution, and that the cursor theme properly matches the other cursors of the same type in the zip folder with the exact same set of the rainbow vortex swirling animation effect. I have noticed that there are quite a few people out there who does not know how to properly make a cursor set with matching cursor themes, or have their hotspots all over the place or not set properly, which often leads to cursor set having usage flaws and or even unfinished cursor sets. Cursor sets designed for Windows 95 up to Windows 8.1 should always have 15 cursor roles and cursor sets designed for late editions of Windows 10 and throughout all builds of Windows 11 should be expected to always have 17 cursor roles. For this cursor set, I have added one extra cursor role, which is not wrong when it comes to make the default mouse pointer more usable and user-friendly for left handed mouse users. I have seen cursor designers who have mega cursor sets with 100 cursors, which is great but often leads to confusion on which version of a particular cursor role to assign to Windows. That is the reason why I perfer to stick to the average quantity of cursors set by Microsoft itself as 15 or 17 cursors altogether.

This time I am going to create the cursor roles one by one as I go along and I will create the cursors using wizards for hard to make cursors such as the mouse pointer cursors and the hand cursors. For some cursors such as the Unavailable cursor role, I am going to download an image for that, then apply the rainbow vortex fill, and I will finally apply the outline using the outline tool from the Tools menu. That way, this will save me a lot of time to design the templates by hand. I will apply a black outline of only one pixel for all the cursor roles. For this rainbow cursor set, I will not add any extra effects such as bezel or any other special effects for this cursor set. Otherwise, this would end up messing up the vortex effect because it add a 3D black shadow. I am going to do my very best to make sure that this cursor set look at its very best.

Just to make sure that the frame time does not animate too fast or too slow, I have set the frame time to 2 seconds within RealWorld Cursor Editor. This rule is the same for all the cursor roles in this set. The swirling rainbow animation looks smooth and plays smoothly with a set time of 2 seconds per frame. It is a shame that RealWorld Cursor Editor is unable to have its frame time set to decimals. For example, 2.5 seconds to give more control over the animation speed. Despite that, I was lucky to have the right frame time for this cursor set which has 50 frames for each cursor role. For some cursors, I have created outline templates because when using the outline tool, it missed out adding pixels. This happens for the Precision Select and Text Select''' cursor roles. I do not know why this happens, but thankfully, using my imagination I have found an easy workaround that involves creating a border template that I paste on top of the filled cursor layer. That fixed the problem with missing outline pixels when using the outline tool.

Some cursor enthusiasts may wonder which cursors have the best surface area to preview rainbow swirling effects. That is the Busy cursor and the Unavailable cursor role. Since those two cursors have the highest possible surface area, the rainbow swirling effect can best be observed by playing back the animation in a circular format. Since the animation effect for this rainbow cursor set is circular by default, it is best observed within the Busy cursor and the Unavailable cursor roles. This rainbow animation with the swirling effect starts from the middle of the canvas and spreads to the edges of the canvas similarly to a ripple effect. This cursor set kind of mimics that in some way, but with a twist of a spinner effect. I had to use a source image from the internet for me to create this rainbow swirling effect, otherwise it would have been impossible for me to achieve this visual effect. I cannot make cursors like this with intense effects out of thin air, so I always need a source image to start the foundation of the animation effect for the cursor set I plan to make.

I started to make this cursor set on January 16th 2025. Below is a preview called "coming soon", which highlights how this rainbow cursor set will look like. This is only a dummy cursor, so it is saved as a static cursor file with a super low color resolution of 4 bits. This dummy cursor looks good enough, but wait until to see the real finished and polished completed cursor set with animations of 50 frames. Link to the dummy cursor:

Rainbow Vortex Swirl:

I have successfully uploaded this Rainbow Vortex Swirl cursor set today on January 21st 2025 without any upload errors. All the 18 cursor roles have uploaded successfully on the RealWorld Designer website. However, the big download button above this page does not work because of the size of the description. Therefore, you need to download the cursors individually one by one to download them all.

Please be sure to thoroughly read the description that I have written for this cursor set above. You must read it so that you know how I created it, and this will also help you out improving your skills when using RealWorld Cursor Editor when making animated cursors. All the cursors in this cursor set are fully animated with 50 animation frames and three cursor resolutions.

I took me multiple days to make this cursor set. I am protecting it from violation with the copyright law and the license I have put in place. You may download it and use this cursor set for any of your project uses, but you are forbidden from performing any re-uploads. Failure to obey this guideline will make me send an email of complaint to the webmaster of any site, including this one, for a takedown complaint of any re-uploads of this cursor set.

If you want to speak to me about this cursor set, you can do here in the comments or send me an email. I have two working email addresses that you can message me for comments, feedback and questions about this cursor set. Enjoy the showy cursors!!!
